Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship 2019-2020

Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST) had established the INAE-SERB, DST Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship in the year 2017 to recognize, encourage and support translational research by Indian Nationals working in a variety of capacities of engineering profession, in public funded institutions in the nation.

The nominee needs to have a minimum of 5 years’ service left in the parent organization. The Fellowship amount is Rs 25,000/- a month along with wages being drawn along with a Research Grant of Rs.15.00 lakh per annum will also be provided. An Overhead of Rs.1.00 lakhs per annum will also be provided to the host institute. A Maximum of 10 Fellowships will be given annually. The length of the Fellowship will be initially for 3 years, extendable by up to two years based on the performance and the

Fellowship could be held for a maximum of five years.

Nominations are accepted for the Fellowship through the year. Additionally, two calls for nominations are announced in each Financial Year. A soft copy of the nomination must be forwarded to INAE via email, followed with a single ink-signed original hard copy to be sent to INAE Office, Gurgaon through Speed Post/Courier.

Background

Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) will award Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowships to outstanding engineers to recognize, promote and support translational research by individuals to attain excellence in engineering, technology and innovation development.

Scope

  • All areas of engineering, technology and innovation are all covered by this fellowship.

Eligibility

  • The scheme is applicable to Indian nationals working in India in a variety of capacities of the engineering profession in public funded institutions.
  • The applicant must have adequate professional qualifications and maintain at least a bachelor’s degree
  • This applicant needs to have a minimum of five (5) years of service left from the parent organization according to the date of this award.
  • The applicant shouldn’t be holding any additional fellowship and in case of selection, he/she is going to need to go for just one of the fellowships.

Duration

  • The duration of the fellowship will be initially for 3 years, extendable by up to two more years based on the performance.
  • The fellowship can be held for a maximum of five years.

Nature of Support

  • The fellowship amount is Rs. 25,000 a month along with regular income.
  • A Research grant of Rs.15.00 lakh per annum
  • An Overhead of Rs.1.00 lakhs per annum to the host institute.
  • The fellowship is taxable according to IT rule of Government of India.

Expected Outcome

  • Commercialized or deployable technology; pilot scale or field trial worthy technologies; patent (filed/ sold/ commercialized); working prototype or model for trial and demonstration.

Nomination

  • The nominations can be sent by the Heads of the Institutions/ organizations, Presidents/ fellows of National science/ engineering academies, SS Bhatnagar Awardees and JC Bose awardees.
  • The nominations will be accepted during the year.

Fellowship

  • A Maximum of 10 Fellowships will be given annually.

Selection

  • Selection of Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellows will be made periodically (normally twice per year) by a Search -Cum-Selection Expert Committee specially constituted for the purpose, in Accordance with the broad guidelines of this fellowship
